Description

A generation ago, Christian parents didn’t have to worry about how to explain transgenderism to their nine-year-old, or help their teenager deal with mockery at school for believing in traditional marriage.

But today, as our culture’s moral center continues to fly apart and with every form of deviance publicly aired and celebrated, we have no choice but to equip our kids to understand and to own the truth about such issues.

It’s not easy, though—these are sensitive questions, and with the wrong approach we can harm our kids’ innocence even as we try to preserve it.

In Made This Way: How to Prepare Kids to Face Today’s Tough Moral Issues, Leila Miller and Trent Horn give parents (guardians and teachers, too!) crucial tools and techniques to form children with the understanding they need—appropriate to their age and maturity level—to meet the world’s challenges.

Their secret lies in an approach that begins not with the Bible or Church teaching but with the natural law. In kid-friendly ways, Miller (Primal Loss) and Horn (Persuasive Pro-Life) help you communicate how the right way to live is rooted in the way we’re made. God’s design for human nature is a blueprint or owner’s manual for moral living that any child can grasp through reason and apply to modern controversies over sex, marriage, life… and the quest for human fulfillment.

Topics covered include:

  • Sex Outside of Marriage
  • Same-Sex Marriage
  • Divorce
  • Contraception
  • Abortion
  • Reproductive Technologies
  • Modesty
  • Pornography
  • Transgenderism
  • Homosexuality

Silence can no longer be an option. If we’re not teaching our children how to understand tough moral issues, then the world will. Read Made This Way and learn how to give your kids a firm foundation on which to build a life of moral clarity and happiness.

Made This Way is an excellent resource for all parents who wish to introduce their children to the beauty of the Church’s moral teaching concerning human sexuality. In a practical way it allows the adults themselves to become more acquainted with the rich natural law tradition thus enabling it to be shared with a new generation. + Robert Cardinal Sarah, Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments

We love this book! It’s practical, easy-to-read, and well researched. It’s great not just for parents, but for anyone who wants to defend what the Church teaches about God’s plan for marriage and the gift of our sexuality.  -Matt and Cameron Fradd

Made This Way shares the common inheritance of natural law and the supernatural wisdom of the Church on the most fundamental and controversial issues tearing us and our families apart: from abortion to divorce to an assortment of novel and flawed views about human sexuality that make the headlines every day. Made This Way will arm you with intelligent, loving, and practical ways to inoculate or heal your young children and teens, and to joyfully share with others the beautiful way God has made us.  -Kevin Vost, Psy.D., psychologist, author of How to Think Like Aquinas

Down to earth, informed, and ordered to the nature of the child in different stages of life, Made This Way is a ready aid to parents—both for their own reference on the truth of difficult moral subjects and for the confidence it gives them to know what to say to their kids and what not to say. Leila Miller and Trent Horn offer parents exactly what they need to guide their family with honesty and yes, the delicacy approptiate to the subject matter, in a morally treacherous world. Fathers and mothers, read this book!

    Everyone Should Read This!

Posted by Maria on Jun 11th 2024

Having lead a discussion on this book last year with our Mom’s ministry, I wanted to get this book into as many people’s hands as possible; I’ve been giving it to newlyweds, Grandmothers, Youth Leaders, Moms, you name it. Not only is it surprisingly uplifting given then topics, it is empowering and inspiring. The arguments from Natural Law, and how they explain this, are perfect for today’s post-Christian world that will not even entertain the idea of a faith based argument most of the time. I love that it has sections for talking with little and then older kids and a take away review section under each chapter, very easy to read and return to when needed. Whether talking with your own kids, grandkids or as a teacher or even just friend to folks on the street, this book gives you the words and approach for many of today’s land-mine issues. Highly recommend, get two (or more) copies because you’ll want to share this with everyone once you read it!

I am a DRE, and I make copies of this book available to every family in our programs. It is the best handbook I have found for understanding difficult moral topics and presenting them to young children and teenagers.

This may be the best book to help parents teach children young and teens, how to live their life as a catholic. I gave these to my children and am giving to other couples with kids.

    1. I had a hard time understanding Chapter about natural law. 2. It would be interesting if you develop a "study" format to follow with questions and answers as a "Bible study" subject, maybe work with Jeff Cavins-Ascension Press?
