Description

All Christians agree: God became man and came to earth for one reason—to save us.

How do we access Jesus’ saving work? By what means, in our everyday lives, does God deliver us from sin and lead us to eternal life?

Well, on this question Christians don’t agree quite as much.

In Salvation Is from the Catholic Church, apologist Trent Horn (Why We’re Catholic) offers a compelling Catholic answer: it is indeed Jesus who saves us, and he does so through the instrument of the Church that he founded and ordained for that very purpose.

As Trent shows, Jesus did not leave his followers to rely on a vague hope of salvation through some one-time personal confession of faith. (Did I do it right? Did I really mean it? How do I know it will last? What if I sin later?) No, he provided universal and tangible ways for all believers, throughout all time, to stay close to him and his saving grace.

The Catholic Church is the ordinary minister of those ways, extending to us everything that God has taught and provided for our salvation: true doctrine and morals, authentic spiritual leadership and worship, and the visible signs by which the power of Christ’s once-for-all sacrifice is made effective in our souls.

Salvation Is from the Catholic Church both de-mystifies the Christian life (all the tools have been accessible for 2,000 years!) and shows how deep and rich it really is. God wants us to repent of our sins, receive Jesus in faith, and remain with him till death—and in the Catholic Church he has provided the means to do all three.
