Description
Did the Catholic Church add extra books to the Bible?
Or did Protestant leaders have them removed?
Find out the truth!
Some differences between Catholicism and Protestantism can be tricky to grasp, but one of them just requires the ability to count: Catholic bibles have seventy-three books, whereas Protestant bibles have sixty-six—plus an appendix with the strange title Apocrypha.
What’s the story here? Protestants claim that the medieval Catholic Church added six extra books that had never been considered part of the Old Testament, either by Jews or early Christians. Catholics say that the Protestant Reformers removed those books, long considered part of Sacred Scripture, because they didn’t like what they contained.
In Why Catholic Bibles Are Bigger, Gary Michuta presents a revised and expanded version of his authoritative work on this key issue.
Combing the historical record from pre-Christian times to the Patristic era to the Reformation and its aftermath, he traces the canon controversy through the writings and actions of its major players.
You’ll be left with a clear picture of the causes of this tragic divide, and you’ll be able to explain and defend the reasons for the full, unabridged Catholic Bible.

Great Topic We’ll Covered
I never realized the stress among Jewish leaders to determine their final Bible version. And never realized the impact of Vulgate’s author on it all.

More than you expect!
This book is way more than the answer to the age old question of whether Catholics added books or Protestants removed them. It goes all the way back to pre-Christian times and the arguments over what was scripture and what was apocrypha to the Protestant reformation and beyond. Some of the information may surprise you and isn't as simple as you may think.

Whoa...
As a recent convert to Catholicism in college, I have been reading as much as I can. I was raised Pentecostal and was always taught that Catholics added books to the Bible. This book traces the beautiful paper trail following the deuterocanon, and with solid historical proof, held up by an abundance of footnotes, does a great job demonstrating the books were always there to begin with and that it was the Protestants who removed books from the Bible. I recommend this to anyone that takes the Bible seriously. Great read!
