Description
Reading the Bible can be difficult, and some passages are particularly hard. St. Peter says that St. Paul can be difficult to understand, and the Gospels records how one of Jesus’ “hard sayings” caused many disciples to leave him.
Today, some people are using these passages to undermine others’ faith. Non-Catholics use them to pull people out of the Catholic Church, and non-Christians use them to pull people out of the Christian faith altogether.
But there is nothing to be afraid of. The Bible is God’s word, and all truth is God’s truth. There is always a way to resolve the difficulties people propose. It’s just a question of knowing how.
In Bible Difficulties 1, internationally known speaker and apologist Jimmy Akin looks at the different types of Bible difficulties and shows you how to resolve examples from each type.
By taking this course, you will learn:
- The tools you need to resolve these difficulties
- Principles you can apply in other cases, to resolve even more difficulties
- How to resolve difficulties you encounter in your own personal Bible reading and study
- How to help people whose faith is being challenged by Bible difficulties
- And how to show non-Catholics—including skeptics and people from other religions—why being a Catholic and having faith in God and the Bible are reasonable
Join us for the first in a series of courses that explores some of the least known and most fascinating aspects of the Bible!

Not What I Was Expecting from the Title
When I read the name "Bible Difficulties" I expected this course to take me through various difficult Scripture passages and explain how I can correctly interpret them. While this was somewhat present, the bulk of the course consisted of discussing different TYPES of Bible difficulties, how they differ, and how to categorize different types of Bible passages based on the type of challenge they present. Despite being somewhat helpful, it seemed as though more time was spent addressing this information than was needed, and could have spent more time addressing the actual Bible passages where these issues occur (ex. the violence in Ps. 137, women's treatment in 1 Tim. 2 & 1 Cor. 14, upholding Christ's divinity in light of Jn. 14:28). In my opinion, the lessons on the types of Bible difficulties should have been condensed into much fewer lessons and should have been presented much more succinctly. This was basic, technical information that could have been addressed much more efficiently, thereby freeing up space to discuss the Bible difficulties themselves. After, all it's the difficulties themselves that we're going to be discussing out in the real world, and this is what it seemed like the course was primarily supposed to be addressing. Despite these shortcomings, the course did provide useful information for how to interpret several difficult passages, and gave relevant information for how to recognize the different types of difficulties one may encounter. However, upon finishing the course, I was moderately dissapointed that I did not get as much as I had hoped for when I bought it. Make the preliminary information more succint and spend more time actually addressing the actual issues, and this course would be really worth it!

So comprehensive and I have always loved Jimmy’s way of simplifying theology with examples.

Bible Difficulties 1
I haven't started this course yet because of my own college schedule right now but I have taken a couple of the other classes and I have not been disappointed. I look forward to completing this course.
